In June, 2008, Dr. Silich was named Associate Director of The Burn Center at North Shore LIJ: Staten Island University Hospital. Dr. Silich was mentored by the late Dr. Jerome Finkelstein, who served as Director of Pediatric Burns at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center from 1994 to 1998. It was at New York Hospital where Dr. Silich embraced Dr. Finkelstein’s philosophy that “a burn changes a life forever”. Dr. Silich has since worked pro-bono caring for and treating burn patients for over 10 years. Although Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery is Dr. Silich’s primary specialty, he feels that the often unique and traumatic experience of a burn victim deserves his attention, care and specialized training so that patients and their families benefit from emotional as well as medical support in the recovery process that always strives to alleviate the long term trauma associated with burns.
THE REGIONAL BURN CENTER: When Staten Island University Hospital opened its state-of-the-art Burn Center on June 1, 1998, it was immediately heralded as the preeminent burn facility in the New York and New Jersey area. The Burn Center provides both in and out-patient care to children and adults with all types of burns and burn-related injuries. Over the past 10 years, The Burn Center’s national reputation for critical care, surgical care and long term treatment of burns has enhanced and surged to the point where The Burn Center’s 10-bed unit now admits approximately 800 patients a year and conducts over 3,500 clinic visits. Services include treatment for both Burn Care and Wound Care in addition to outpatient (ambulatory) services and Burn Clinic Office Hours (walk-in and by appointment). For more information, call (877) 226-BURN, or to make an appointment for current out-patient treatment, call (718) 226-6988.
